Écluse Wines Win Best of Class and Take Home Three Double Gold Medals and Two Gold Medals in 2016 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
Écluse Wines Consistently Peak Judges Interest in Largest Gathering of American Wines
January16, 2016 (Paso Robles, CA) – Écluse Wines, a boutique, family owned winery located on Kiler Canyon Road on the Westside of Paso Robles was awarded Best of Class, along with three Double Gold medals and two Gold Medals in the 2016 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. The competition is the largest in the United States and reached a new record with 7,162 entries. Results announced earlier this week placed the 2013 Ensemble - a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec – at the top of its class for Bordeaux style blends in the $43-$48.99 suggested retail price (SRP) category. The 2013 Ensemble showcases enticing aromas of vanilla, black current and brown sugar bringing together flavors of blackberry and cherry with a silky smooth finish.
“The 2013 wines are crowd pleasers in the tasting room,” said Pam Lock, proprietor. “We are honored that more than 70 judges from across the United States feel the same as our customers.”
Écluse Wines received Double Gold medals for its 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2013 Zinfandel and 2013 Rendition, a Rhône style blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. In addition Gold medals were awarded for the 2013 Grenache and the 2013 Improv, a unique blend of five varieties, and a Silver medal for the 2013 Petite Sirah rounded out the awards.
Lock further explained Écluse’s selection criteria to enter wine competitions. “As a small winery we must be selective. It’s important to us in validating our wines that we enter competitions with multiple judges – such as this competition with 70+ judges, and Affairs of the Vine competitions with 30+ judges – which provide diverse palates and of course blind tastings. Since we began entering the San Francisco Wine Competition in 2008 our results have been consistent, every wine we have entered has medaled. In 2011 our 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon won the sweepstakes award for Best Red. We know the 2013 Ensemble, as a Best of Class winner, made it to the sweepstakes table for consideration. It’s great exposure and an honor for our small brand.” Lock concluded.
Écluse Wines are crafted from the 30-acre Lock Vineyard.
