Dirt Worshipper Named a Top-100 Wine in the World
Wine Spectator placed Denner’s Syrah blend at No. 18 on the magazine’s prestigious annual list.
December 4, 2019 (Paso Robles, Calif.)– Denner Vineyards is pleased to announce its 2016 Dirt Worshipper was named a Top 100 wine in the world by Wine Spectator magazine. The 2019 Top 100 list appears in the magazine’s current issue.
Denner was highest ranked Paso Robles winery on this year’s Top 100. Saxum and Sans Liege were also named to the list, which can be seen here.
“I look down this list and see so many wines and winemakers that I've looked up to my entire career. It really is an honor to be listed alongside some of the finest wines in the world,” says Anthony Yount, who is celebrating his tenth year as Denner’s winemaker. “We work our tails off to farm, craft and present our wines to club members and visitors in our tasting room on a daily basis. Being recognized for all the hard work only encourages us to find more ways to up our game.”
In his review, Wine Spectator’s Senior Editor, Tim Fish, wrote: “[Dirt Worshipper] offers an impressive combination of bold, concentrated fruit with a polished, refined structure, delivering black plum, licorice and smoky pepper flavors, accented by crushed stone and fresh earth details. The tannins are broad but harmonious.”
This marks the second time Denner’s Dirt Worshipper was named a top-20 wine in the world by Wine Spectator. In 2011, the 2008 vintage was No. 11 on the list.
Earlier in November, the editors of Wine Enthusiast named Denner’s 2016 Mother of Exile a Top 100 Cellar Selection in the world. The magazine placed the Bordeaux blend at No. 34 on the list. The goal of the Top 100 Cellar Selections is to celebrate “special bottles that will stand the test of time,” according to the magazine.
The 2016 Dirt Worshipper and 2016 Mother of Exile are still available in magnums. The 2017 Dirt Worshipper is also available, albeit in limited quantities. The 2017 Dirt Worshipper has already been awarded 95 points by Wine Enthusiast.
